Last night, at the Grand Palais in Paris , Lancôme presented Magnifique, its newest fragrance which olfactively interprets the color red. Anne Hathaway is Lancôme's newest ambassador, who will be featured in the advertising campaign. The fragrance, a spicy woody floral, was created by Firmenich perfumers Olivier Cresp and Jacques Cavallier. As WWD reported this morning, "'The challenge was to work on wood [notes]," said Cresp, explaining the women's fragrance market has few woody juices. While he and Cavalllier were in India they came upon nagarmota, a plant giving iff a woody odor. They liked it so much, they opted to use nagarmota essential oil in Magnifique." Other notes include saffron essence, cumin, Bulgarian rose essence, Mai de Grasse rose absolute, jasmine, Australian sandalwood essence and a vetiver note.
Magnifique will launch in August in the US (where it will be exclusive to Bloomingdale's at first) and in September elsewhere. India, roses, red... I am adding this launch to the list of new fragrances to anticipate!
Wow, those are quite the notes, the real question is if they are going to show, and if so Lancome has done something quite ballsy for a mainstream scent. This sounds like something out of the niche sector.

The only thing though is that the bottle is simply horrid. Magnifique it is not! Looks more like something from a drugstore.

Sorry, I just realized that the picture is not visible. Off to fix it.

Cumin and saffron, wow! Go Lancome! :-)

I saw a documentary on saffron, 95% of it on the market is fake even the one sold in Morroco as it 's the rarest and most precious spice in the world. I don 't think Lancome is using real saffron essence of course, it must be synthetic which is fine with me when it comes to the fragrance execution but why dupe and mislead the consumers by listing olfactory note terms that are not true. Also the woody feminine challenge is a joke to me, Feminite du Bois is a modern classic, I don 't understand why they feel they have to "educate" women about woody fragrances, it 's been done already.

V- I wonder if woodsy fragrances will be the new fruity florals? First Estee lauder, now Lancome. Not that I'm complaining, just wondering what the next big trend will be.

The bottle reminds me of Bvlgari Au Thé Rouge.

I am so looking forward to this one. And I think the choice of Anne Hathaway is a great one too. Style, classy, youthful - all at once. I hope that is what Magnifique eludes to.

Girsodeadly, I completely agree that Feminite du Bois is a modern classic, but even with the stunning bottle I imagine it was a commercial disappointment in the US, otherwise I would still be drenching myself in it every time I wandered through Bloomingdales. I miss it so!
Wood/Rose wounds like a lovely and accessible concept. Wood/Fruit is already doing well commercially in the form of Armani Code and Gucci by Gucci (and as a fruit lover I happen to like both, though I know I am in the osmophile minority). Perhaps Wood/Rose will be the next big thing?

Oblitterati, as soon as Feminite du Bois had been discontinued in the US, the Shiseido sales people already had forgotten about it. I inquired a couple of times at the Macys, Saks and Bloomingdales Shiseido counters, noone would even know what I was talking about, except one supervisor, an older lady who told me with a big smile on her face "Oh yes! Fayminitay Dou Bwa! she was so sorry it had been discontinued and like you found the bottle design was stunning.
Serge Lutens plans to bring it back but under his name brand at $140.00 a bottle! You can purchase his violet version at Bergdorf & Goodman, Bois de Violette with a pricetag of $190.00.
Isn 't YSL Elle a fruit/wood fragrance as well? I smelled it at Sephora, smells 90% fruity to me, nothing close to Feminite du Bois as a feminine wood.

Dare I even HOPE for a decent Lancome release!? After the wretched "Limited Edition" Benghal (yeeecchhh! What a waste of a great name!) I thought I should just give up - I hate Tresor and Poeme is a big fat nothing. This sounds promising though - cumin AND Bulgarian rose? And the new nagarmota essence? Maybe there is life after Magie Noire after all?

Let us just sit, wait and see.
Dissapointments after dissapointemnts from all the numerous past "hypes" by so many big names which have so many times failed even to simply impress not to mention make a mark.
So best of luck to Lancome and hope this time, this will be as good as it sounds.....

Ahh I was not very impressed with Magnifique. I'm indifferent about the smell, to me its like a cheap drugstore body spray because the scent doesn't last long, it wears of after one hour even though it is perfume. Better luck next time Lancome

Bonjour to all of you from Southwest Louisiana!! Finally someone has decided to incorporate wood as an ingredient in their fragrance. Sooo tired of those horrible flower fragrances. Finally Lancome has done just that and my kudos to them for that. This will be probably the best seller for them. Just bought one today...and I'm sure I will enjoy wearing it because of the woody notes. Go out and buy yourself a bottle - you won't be sorry!!
