Dear readers, as the year draws to a close, I would like to offer thanks for your constant support and presence on these pages. Despite the economic outlook, it remains a season to give to those who have less and to think of others. Therefore, I would like to open a charity raffle for a chance to win a brand new bottle of Serge Lutens fragrance of your choice.
Rules:
1. Donate to Doctors Without Borders by January 15, 2009. Other charities are also appropriate but please confirm your choice of charity with me before donating. My intent is to help those with urgent need for those things we sometimes take most for granted: food, water, medicine and shelter. By way of example: Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, UNICEF, etc.
Doctors without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) is an organization that includes doctors and nurses who volunteer to provide urgent medical care to victims of war and disaster regardless of race, religion, or politics. It remains independent of any political, religious or economic power. Most of their work is funded by private donations. In fact, the organization received the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of its members' continuous effort to provide medical care in acute crises, as well as raising international awareness of potential humanitarian disasters.
2. Minimum Donation Amount is $25=1 raffle ticket drawn blindly. Each $5 increment will buy an additional raffle ticket.
3. Provide proof of donation to Bois de Jasmin via email at editor at boisdejasmin dot com by January 15, 2009.
The winner can choose one (1) bottle of Serge Lutens EDP from the following:

Important Disclosure: Neither Serge Lutens nor Shiseido have anything to do with the choice of fragrances for the raffle. They are fragrances I have in my personal collection, and they are being offered because of the particular affection expressed by readers of Bois de Jasmin towards these scents.
Thank you for your participation in the name of a good cause.
What a wonderful way to help others! I hope you get lots of participants.

It's such a great idea! I would like to donate to Red Cross. Is it ok?

Fantastic, Victoria. I miss your words, but applaud this way of weaving together passions. I think that the economic outlook makes it important for us to remember to reach out and help, even if we struggle at home. Doctors Without Borders is a personal favorite of mine as well, but I am glad you are welcoming other worthy recipient organizations as well.

Victoria, I like this idea very much! I would like to donate to Alex's Lemonade Stand. It raises money to fight childhood cancer. http://www.alexslemonade.org
Is it appropriate?

Victoria,
Wonderful idea. You always amaze me. My pick is Doctors without borders. My dad has already donated some to them this year. I will do the same!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Dear Victoria,
What a great idea!!! I am sure you will get a lot of participants and i will certainly be one of them.
Victoria, since you have many times expressed your love for Guerlain's "Apres L'onndee", I'd like to kindly ask you for a review of its younger sibling, the exclusive "Quand vient la pluie". I would greatly appreciate a few words about it.
Thanks a lot in advance!

Serafima, most definitely!

ScentScelf, thank you so much. There are plenty of organizations I admire, which is why I left it rather open.

Mark, thank you for being so generous. I already got your email.

Tammy, yes, it is definitely appropriate, a truly worthy cause.

Kaori, thank you! It is an organization I admire very much.
By the way, have you tried El Attarine already?
Posted by: Bois de Jasmin | November 30, 2008 at 13:06
Tatyana, thank you!
As much as the packaging concept for Quand vient la pluie was uninteresting to me (and the price was outrageous as a result,) I thought that the fragrance was very beautifully done. Thanks to the richer, sweeter base, the violet-iris notes had a lush, velvety quality, whereas in Apres L'Ondee, they are silky and cool. The whole composition had an interesting warm, sensual component, and it made it a good complement to Apres L'Ondee, which is more introspective and airy. I liked it very much. The sweet orange blossom, the heliotrope, the gourmand twist on violet, the leafy green accents--it all worked very well for me. You've reminded me to go and put some on. :)

Victoria,
I have not tried El Attarire yet. I saw a good review somewhere... I love to read your review on that :) BTW, I bought Guerlain's Cologne Du 68 yesterday. Every time I tested the cologne it smells different like a kaleidoscope.

I would like to donate to the Red Cross, also. What do you accept as proof of donation?
Posted by: sarah | December 02, 2008 at 13:15
Kaori, you might enjoy El Attarine, it has a gilded Lutens base and a very beautiful apricot rose twist. Cologne Du 68 is gorgeous, and it is definitely very multifaceted. I have not worn it in some time, but you've inspired me to return to it today.

Sarah, if you do it online, they shall send you a confirmation that your donation has been received. Just forward that confirmation to me as a proof. Thank you!

Could we donate anywhere so that we can benefit from some of your fabulous reviews and articles? I don't know about others here but I certainly miss those. The world of perfume is not as beautiful without them.
